India complete impressive win ? Cricket News Roundup ? Part 1 ? November 19, 2012
India completed an impressive nine-wicket win over England to strike first blood in the four-match Test series.
Resuming the final day on 340 for 5, the tourists added 66 runs to set up India an easy 77-run target. Pragyan Ojha claimed the all important wickets of Alastair Cook (176) and Matt Prior ( 91) to end with impressive match figures of 9 for 165, before a wicket each for Ravichandran Ashwin and Zaheer Khan ensured that their side had little to chase on an deteriorating Motera track. ?
Virender Sehwag was the only host wicket which fell as Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli put the final touches on a resounding win. Pujara was further named the Player of the Match for his impressive double hundred in the first innings.
New Zealand stumbled against the spin of Rangana Herath to hand Sri Lanka an easy 10-wicket win in the opening Test at Galle.
The match was evenly poised when play resumed on day 3, with the Kiwis 9 runs ahead. However, their failure to deal with Herath, who eventually ended with 11 scalps including six in the second innings, ensured that the contest was a one sided affair.
The Kiwis eventually made 118 to leave Sri Lanka with just 93 for victory. The home side easily overhauled the target, courtesy openers Tharanga Paranavitana (31) and Dimuth Karunaratne( 60), and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has given Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal permission to play in the early parts of the upcoming Big Bash, Australia T20 competition.
The trio was scheduled to take part in the lucrative T20 event, only for PCB to put on hold their respective involvements as they wanted the players to play in the local tournament, which runs from December 2 to 10, and further take part in the conditioning camp ahead of the India tour.
"We have reconsidered our decision, on the request of Cricket Australia, as the players had already signed their contract," a PCB spokesman told ESPNcricinfo. "They will now leave at the tail end of [Pakistan's] T20 tournament, which runs from December 2 to 10, and will return when our conditioning camp starts."
